What is it to you?

What do you know about Easter?
This year, was it about eating too much chocolate and having an excuse to have a public holiday?

Perhaps whilst you tuck into some hot-cross buns this week, ask yourself:
"what is the reason behind Easter?"
(perhaps do this whilst making some hot cross buns - a yummy recipe here)
(admittedly this post is a bit late - we were having too much fun with our free time!)

Once you are done with that question, you can ask yourself:
What is happening with SMA at the moment?
Answer- lots of things!

1. SMA Camp is coming up. It is not too late to register for this wonderful event.
See more info here!

2. Our next monthly meet up is very very soon. In fact, next week on Thursday 5th May at 7-9pm.
At the moment we are planning on having it at Steph's house- only 15-20 minutes from uni in Scarborough. Let us know if this poses difficulties!! Address will be given via email.

We will be eating nachos, chatting & having some discussion/prayer.
Everyone is welcome!!

Look out for more details closer to the date.

Grill-A-Christian 2011

Grill-A-Christian was on Thursday night (unfortunately clashing with the UWA Surgical Society orthopaedics night and an Interhealth event), and was held at Dalkeith Anglican Church.  After a yummy sausage-sizzle, we had a panel of 4 speakers who answered a whole range of questions about Christianity!

We have videos of the panel's discussion of the final 3 questions of the night:

SMA Camp

Hey guys - the annual SMA Camp is coming up soon and we need you to register if you're interested in coming along!

This year's theme is 'finding hope in suffering', and our guest speaker is Neil Anderson, the director of Vose Mission.  Camp is always filled with fun, games, food, and some good-old Bible study.

Saturday night of the camp will also be co-run by the folks at CMDF WA, where from 5:30pm (following a scrumptious curry dinner), they will be putting on Missions Night, showcasing overseas projects and having discussions with people who have been involved with missions and mission agencies.  Perfect for the travel-bug!
There will be stalls from various mission destinations and agencies which you can get more information from on the night.

The details:
5:30pm Friday 6th May to 1:30pm Sunday 8th May
Advent Park Camping and Convention Centre (345 Kalamunda Rd, Maida Vale)
Cost: $55 for full camp (partial registration and day-passes available)

Things to bring: sleeping bags, toiletries, snacks, paper and pens, Bible, more snacks, money for snacks, clean underwear.

If you have any questions, please email writetosma@gmail.com or contact us at year4sma@gmail.com

Don't forget to REGISTER!

Turnin' up the heat!

Just a reminder that THIS THURSDAY April 14th is Grill-A-Christian!

We will be there, manning the anonymous question-line - ask the panel anything!

Week 10/11

A gossip betrays a confidence,
but a trustworthy person keeps a secret
Proverbs 11:13

Hey ladies and gents!  We hope everyone’s finding it bearable and not too stressful since we’re heading into the last week of our term 2!  Time flies just too quickly these days…

Anyway, on Thursday 31st, we had our meet-up for the month of March, where we made some pizzas, discussed our rotations, and talked about what it means to have mercy (in a Christian sense) and apply it to medicine.
For the time being, we've decided to put the next meet-up on Thursday the 28th of April (subject to change).  Remember, anyone is welcome!  More details to come soon :)

Also there’s a couple of reminders for everyone to take note of:

Firstly, GRILL-A-CHRISTIAN is coming up on Thursday 14th of April.  Sick of being grilled by your consultant?  Here's your chance to channel some grilling onto other people!
This event will be held at Dalkeith Anglicanwith a BBQ from 6pm and the festivities beginning at 7pm!  It's a great night in which people have the chance to bring up their burning questions about Christianity to a panel of mature Christians.  Why you should come:

  • It's a great chance to network with some other year groups/grads
  • Get your burning questions answered!
  • Anonymous text-line so you can grill-away!

Secondly, SMA Camp is around the corner!  This year, it'll be running from the 6th-8th of May at Advent Park with the theme of "Hope in Suffering" - a particularly relevant theme given what's been happening around the world lately, as well as being applicable to our medical lives.
We'll let you know as soon as registration opens - from the sounds of it, it'll be a measly $55 for the whole weekend (with partial registration on offer as well)!

Anyway, we hope you have a great week!  Good luck for the psych kids who have their long-case on Thursday, and the musculoskeletal folks who have an assessment on Friday arvo.
